The Office of External & Competitive Scholarships helps guide students to achieve these scholarships and fellowships through mentorship, academic planning, and goal setting.

Undergraduate Study

These opportunities provide supplemental funding for high-achieving students to study at HL黑料门不打烊.

  • Goldwater STEM Scholarship

    Awarded to sophomores and juniors who intend to pursue research careers in mathematics, engineering, and the natural sciences. It covers the cost of tuition, fees, books, and room and board up to a maximum of $7,500 per year.

  • Truman Scholarship

    This highly selective, merit-based scholarship awards students $30,000 toward graduate school and provides the opportunity to participate in professional development programs to help prepare students for careers in public service, including retreats to learn from members of Congress and other Truman Scholars.

  • Obama-Chesky Voyager Scholarship Program

    The Obama-Chesky Scholarship for Public Service supports students who have a passion for helping others, experience serving their communities, and can demonstrate an expansive view of what鈥檚 possible through public service. Students are awarded a two-year, leadership development and scholarship for up to $50,000.

Postgraduate Opportunities

  • Fulbright US Student Program

    For more than 75 years, the Fulbright Program, has stood as the U.S. government鈥檚 flagship educational exchange program, with more than 400,000 participants who have served in 160 countries across the globe. The prestigious program provides students, scholars, and professionals from all backgrounds the opportunity to study, teach, conduct research, exchange ideas, and contribute to finding solutions to complex global challenges. Past scholars have become Nobel Prize winners, heads of state, authors, artists, and business leaders.

  • North American Language and Culture Assistants Program

    The North American Language and Culture Assistants Program (NALCAP) provides funding for recent graduates to spend a year in Spain teaching English. Recipients will immerse themselves in the language and culture of Spain while sharing the language and culture of the United States with students in Spain, as well as a tremendous opportunity for professional and personal growth.


Language Study

Opportunities that support students' immersive experiences in studying language at the source.

  • Boren Scholarship

    This prestigious award offers funding for U.S. undergraduate students to study underrepresented languages in international regions critical to U.S. interests. In exchange for funding, Boren Scholars commit to work in the federal government for at least one year after graduation.

  • Critical Language Scholarship

    The U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship Program is a fully-funded immersive summer language study program focused on languages critical to U.S. national security, economic prosperity, and engagement with the world. Students travel to the country where the language is spoken, live with a host family and complete an intensive language study program.

  • Critical Language Spark Program

    A fully-funded online intensive language study program for students interested in learning Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Korean (no previous study required); provides the prerequisite needed for application to the CLS Scholarship program.


Summer Opportunities

  • Leadership Alliance Award

    This program provides a fully paid summer internship for undergraduates considering pursuing a PhD or MD-PhD in any field. Students join a research project at one of 30 partner universities and develop research skills while developing relationships with mentors in their area of study.

  • Fulbright UK Summer Institutes

    For students who have limited or no experience traveling outside the U.S., this program offers them the chance to explore the culture, heritage and history of the UK while experiencing higher education at a UK university for 3-4 weeks.
